Dreamer Songs

*The Dream Project was founded in 2010 in Virginia to offer scholarship and mentoring assistance to undocumented students. These youth have crossed borders from South America, Central America and other Countries and now reside in NY, Boston, Virginia, and D.C. The Writing for Resilience Cohort consists of current Dream Project scholars and alumni, all young, first-generation college students whose immigration status has been a barrier to achieving their dreams. The program is led by Dr. Lizbeth Moses, a renowned community psychoanalyst, with support from Ninfa Amador, a Dream Project alumna. Through writing prompts, the program aims to build community and friendship among cohort members. These prompts encourage participants to reflect on both the joyful and challenging aspects of their journeys, their current situations, and the impact of their migration experiences. A key element of the program is concluding each session with a poem collaboratively crafted by all members. This blend of individual writing, sharing, and communal collaboration allows participants to share their stories, learn from each other, and find the strength to pursue their dreams, despite the challenges posed by their immigration status.
