un bacio was commissioned by the Manhattan School of Music to celebrate its 90th Anniversary. The "text" of the piece is derived from the sounds that combine to create the words, "un bacio" (Italian for "a kiss"). Likewise, the musical setting evolved from the title's myriad possibilities...
