Prelude for 7 Instruments is a meditation on balance and imbalance. The seven instruments move between distinct, individualistic gestures and cohesive tutti waves of sound. In so doing, they anticipate the tensions of joy and fear, innocence and evil, and peace and tragedy in my operatic soliloquy, Telaio: Desdemona, for which it was originally written as a prelude. It may also be performed as a separate concert work.
